Regardless, it’s both a solid fighting game and an elaborate epilogue to Persona 3 and Persona 4, so if you’re getting it for free, there’s no reason not to try the game! After all, the story for Ultimax serves as a direct sequel to Persona 4 Arena.

I do find it a bit surprising that they picked the sequel (Ultimax) for the PS Plus lineup instead of the original Persona 4 Arena, which to my knowledge has not been made available for free on PS Plus before. That said, the story relies heavily on the player’s knowledge of the previous games, so not knowing the background story or the characters will likely make the story a lot less interesting.

For that reason, for fans of the Persona series the game is almost worth playing for the story alone. Told in the style of a visual novel, the stories featured most of the main characters of Persona 3 and Persona 4, and also introduced new ones. This 2D fighting game from Atlus is the sequel to the original Persona 4 Arena, and both games were developed by Arc System Works (known for Guilty Gear and BlazBlue).ĭespite being 2D fighting games at heart, both featured an unusually elaborate plot, set after the events of Persona 4. Today, Sony revealed the games that will be made available to PS Plus subscribers this February in both the US and the EU, and it contains an Atlus game, namely Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. In February last year, Yakuza 4 was part of that list.

Check them out below in alphabetical order. One of the benefits of the PlayStation Plus subscription is that you get access to a free list of games every month. We’ve compiled a list of the 19 best anime fighting games that have ever been made. Whether you’re into anime and want to experience it from a gaming side or you want to ease into some anime fandom with some gaming, this list might just be right for you. So those are anime series and fighting games in a nutshell, now if we put them together… see where we’re going with this? They’re generally centered around close-range combat between two or more players, like Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, or Tekken. Fighting games, as the name suggests, are all about fighting. Yes, a lot of games have fighting or some form of combat in them, but they’re not all necessarily fighting games. Now, you’re probably familiar with what a fighting game is, but the name can cause some confusion if gaming isn’t your thing. You can read about some of the best-selling manga of all time here. In Japan, manga (Japanese comic books that anime series often spawn from) sell hundreds of millions of copies. Many of these were part of the western world before we realized what we were even watching – think Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, or Dragon Ball Z. Anime has been taking over the world for a few years now, and the silly stigma around it being only for a specific group of people is thankfully wearing away.Īn anime is basically a Japanese version of a cartoon. If you’re not clued up on what an anime is, you’re getting closer and closer to becoming the minority as each year passes.
